ESCONDIDO — The Imperial Valley Eclipse 18-and-under softball team captured the championship of the American Softball Association's all-star tournament here Sunday.
After winning its first three games, the Eclipse advanced to the finals, where it faced the Inland Heat from Rialto. The Eclipse won the first game 7-1 with Leighan Sudduth picking up the win on the mound. The Eclipse knocked off the Heat 4-3 in the final game, with Lauren Huyler earning the pitching victory.
In earlier action the Eclipse beat El Monte 1-0 with Huyler picking up the win. Huyler pitched the Eclipse to a 10-2 win over Chino Hills while Sudduth earned the win in a 9-0 victory over Chino.
With the win the Eclipse qualified for the national tournament from July 30 through Aug. 5 in Federal Way, Wash.
