50 years ago — A new era in vice raids dawned in Westmorland. City officials told the county that the city is seriously trying to suppress prostitution.

40 years ago — The county Board of Supervisors authorized Road Commissioner Dave Pierson to move 40,000 pounds of dirt from the side of Sunbeam Lake. The board wants to increase the size of the lake.

30 years ago — Fred Singh, county environmental health commissioner, said local mosquitoes were checked recently and found free of the sleeping sickness virus killing horses and spreading to humans in Texas.

20 years ago — Two Los Angeles area men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for arranging delivery of some 10 ounces of heroin to Imperial County, where it was sold to narcotics agents posing as drug buyers.
