Ruby E. Sims

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Johnson Mortuary in Yuma for Ruby E. Sims, 82, of Winterhaven, who died Sunday in Winterhaven.

Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in Desert Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Yuma.

Mrs. Sims was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Bristow. Okla. She was a retired Imperial County judge and resided in Winterhaven for 55 years.

She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Winterhaven.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland R. Sims Sr.

Survivors include her children and spouses, Ronald G. and Sylvia Sims and Janice and Steve Martin, all of Yuma, and Roland R. Jr. and Patricia Sims of Farmington, N.M.; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.


Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Hems Bros. Mortuary chapel in El Centro for Juan Ramirez-Chavez, 80, of El Centro, who died Saturday in El Centro Regional Medical Center. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m.


Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in El Centro with the Rev. Jaime Escobedo officiating.

Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico.

Mr. Ramirez-Chavez was born Oct. 12, 1920, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. He lived in the Imperial Valley for 51 years and worked in agriculture.

Survivors include his wife, Dominga Ramirez of El Centro; children, Celia Garcia of Niland, Lorena Olmos-Ramirez, Ernie Olmos and Seve, Tony, Frederick and Vivian Ramirez, all of El Centro, and Veronica Morgan and Johnny and Fabian Ramirez, all of Brawley; and 18 grandchildren.


Services are pending for Maria Luisa Acuña-Rashid, 86, of Calexico, who died Sunday in Mexico City.

Mrs. Rashid was born May 6, 1915, in the state of Sonora, Mexico.

Survivors include her children, Maria Antonieta Rashid-Arvizu of Mexicali, Alma and Francisco Rashid, both of Calexico, Daniel Rashid of San Diego and Zulema Rashid of Mexico City; and 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
