CALEXICO — An 18-year-old man was arrested here on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit and run driving after he reportedly drove his car into a fence and later into the yard of a residence Thursday.

Calexico resident Jose Caloca was cited and released after his car plowed into a yard in the 500 block of Sam Ellis Street shortly after 10 p.m.

Calexico police Sgt. Jim Neujahr said Caloca reportedly had been in an argument in the 2200 block of Portico Boulevard when he got behind the wheel of his car and drove into the fence of a business in the area. The accident downed about 25 feet of the fence, Neujahr reported, and punctured one of the car's tires.

Caloca continued to drive until he lost control of the vehicle on Sam Ellis. He then drove into a yard and crashed into a bush.

Neujahr said Caloca was taken into custody and was released after being "detoxed."
