E.C. man beaten, robbed of cash stashed in sock

July 22, 2001

An El Centro man was beaten and robbed of $100 early Friday morning despite trying to keep the cash safely stashed in his sock.

The robbery occurred after Armando Arce, 32, was approached by two Hispanic men and a Hispanic female in the 800 block of Park Avenue around 6:30 a.m., according to El Centro Police Department log entries.

Though Arce didn't see a knife, the assailants threatened to stab him if he did not give them his money, El Centro Officer Victor Nuñez said.

The two men punched and kicked Arce, Nuñez said. The suspects searched Arce's clothing for money and found the $100 in his sock, Nuñez said.

Arce, who declined medical attention, said he had seen one of the suspects before but did not know any of them, Nuñez said.

No arrests have been made and the incident is under investigation.
