CALIPATRIA — The City Council here will discuss procedures used in the renaming of two streets in the city during a council meeting Tuesday.

The discussion is related to a roomful of residents sharing their concerns on the renaming of Bonita and East Elder streets to Beal Street and Emanuel Street, respectively, a couple council meetings ago.

City Manager Rumualdo Medina said a council member asked that the item be placed on the agenda.

Also during the meeting:

*The city will vote whether to apply for a wastewater treatment grant from a planning and technical assistance allocation from the state Community Development Block Grant program.

The state sent out a notice for $70,000 in available funding. The city has to cash match $5,000 if the grant is awarded.

*The council will vote on a resolution that would ask the California Department of Transportation and other state officials to add appropriate signs that would direct traffic to the Northend of the Valley for drivers using Highway 111.

*The council will seek to pass a resolution that would support the completion of a proposed Highway 78/111 Brawley bypass that Caltrans officials approved. The council will formally request that Caltrans give a second review of the Del Rio North alternative.
