50 years ago — "Now's the time to howl over taxes, not next November when the property tax bill comes out," the California Taxpayers' Association declared today. Property tax bills in Imperial County have more than doubled in 10 years, the association said.

40 years ago — A rural El Centro couple was admitted to Brawley's Pioneers Memorial Hospital after being stricken by food poisoning. Food samples from an El Centro eating place where the couple dined were ordered by physicians for diagnosis.

30 years ago — Representatives for Air California Airlines will be in the Imperial Valley next week in an effort to interest Valleyites in using the airlines' services from San Diego. Air California is trying to determine the "traffic potential" of local businesses using the airlines' facilities.

20 years ago — Who needs the major leagues? Not El Centro. Fans from both sides of the border were on hand at Stark Field on Tuesday night to watch the El Centro and Mexicali Little League all-stars play. A huge crowd showed up and the game was carried live on KXO radio.
