Annual ice cream social today in El Centro

July 26, 2001|By RUDY YNIGUEZ, Staff Writer

The first community use of the new El Centro Town Square will be this evening's 13th annual Ice Cream Social.

The event's sponsors are the El Centro Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau and the Downtown El Centro Association. The Ice Cream Social is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m.

DECA president Larry Bratton said the ice cream booths will be set up under the veranda between Randy's TV and the Owl Cafe in the 600 block of Main Street, making easy access to the Town Square.

Bratton said the musical group Fiddle Fare will perform at the square from 8 to 9 p.m.

There should be plenty of refreshments — like ice cream — and the ever-popular Rain on Main, in which the El Centro Fire Department turns out with an engine company and fire hoses to help keep the crowd cool.

Bratton said a number of downtown businesses will remain open late to accommodate customers.
