Calexico housing commissioners resign positions

July 27, 2001|By AARON CLAVERIE, Staff Writer

CALEXICO — Gloria Rodriguez has resigned as a commissioner on the Calexico Housing Authority board and Commissioner Isabel Aguilar gave notice that she will resign Aug.1.

The board was informed of the decisions at Thursday's amended special meeting.

Board Chairman Jesus "Chuy" Solano said the board is going through a restructuring phase.

"There is a lot of dust in the air but it's going to settle," he said.

The board heard an update during the meeting on negotiations between housing consultant Victor Rocha and Atlanta-based housing consultant Goodwin and Associates.

Rocha has worked for a month on behalf of Casas del Sol housing project residents to amend the implementation plan of a federal program that will allow the low-income Casas families to buy the homes they rent from the authority.

Rocha said negotiations have been productive and he presented the board with a copy of the plan he prefers.

Solano said the board will approve the implementation plan soon so the houses can be sold.
