Speeds reach 120 mph in car chase on Dogwood Road

An unidentified driver in a stolen vehicle led El Centro police on a high-speed pursuit to Brawley on Friday … and may have gotten away with it.

The 5:23 p.m. chase reportedly reached speeds of up to 120 mph along Dogwood Road, according to El Centro Police Department logs.

El Centro police Officer Pete Peraza said the vehicle was being followed for some sort of violation.

Peraza said the pursuing officer ran a check of the license plate and was informed the vehicle was stolen.

The chase began on Dogwood south of Aten Road, moved north into Brawley and west on Main Street, where the driver eventually collided with something, according to the logs.

The person, still at-large, was described as a thinly built Hispanic male adult with light skin, last seen wearing a baseball cap near the intersection of Eleventh and H streets.

"We're still looking for him," Peraza said.

Though the man was reportedly forcing other drivers off the road as he fled, Peraza said no one was injured and no property was damaged.

Peraza was unsure what the driver collided with in Brawley, and a Brawley police sergeant said Saturday night he was unfamiliar with the incident.
