Voice: Despite crummy letter, Otero doing an outstanding job

July 28, 2001

Thomas Crum wrote in "Voice of the People" on July 25 that Imperial County District Attorney Gilbert Otero is "arrogant," thinks of himself as "above the law" and applies a "double-standard system" to his elected position that results in repressive "civil rights violations."

Mr. Crum's only agenda here is to paint his jackass some zebra stripes. Tom Crum is a sore loser and would have readers believe that he has compassion and genuine concerns for other people's financial straits that Mr. Otero's office tightens about the purse strings of irresponsible and deadbeat dads who have been ordered by our courts to monetarily support their children. Crum rhymes with bum and sounds precisely like crumb.

Gilbert Otero is doing an outstanding job as my county district attorney because he is smart, polished, friendly, humble, funny — and he knows the law. He is our protector and shield.

We are a nation of laws, not of men. Our District Attorney Otero believes that polarity and alienation cannot substitute for harmony and union. Seeking never vengeance but always truth and justice for bad actors, he prosecutes the law uniformly and fairly — cares very deeply about all of us as his clients — and the constitutions of the United States and California are his templates for management; a golden heart is his beacon.
