EAST MESA — Skeletal remains were found in this eastern Imperial Valley area Thursday and county Coroner's Office investigators said they are looking into whether the remains are human.
The remains were found by a passerby about 5 p.m. east of the Highline Canal.
County Coroner Investigator Gary Hayes said the remains had been in the desert area for "quite awhile."
He said a forensic pathologist will study the remains to determine if they are human.
Hayes said the bones were in an area regularly used by those attempting to cross into the country illegally.
