Imperial County Transit adding new bus routes

August 02, 2001

Imperial County Transit added four new routes to the local bus system effective Wednesday.

"The additional routes benefit many people including students, employees and others who use the bus to get around the Valley," said Imperial County Transit Manager Jorge Manriquez.

The new routes will connect several North County cities starting at Niland and reaching Imperial Valley College at both noon and 1:30 p.m., then continue south through Calexico. In addition, there will be an early evening route north from El Centro to Brawley and a mid-morning round trip between El Centro, Holtville and IVC.

"The Imperial Valley Association of Governments had determined a need for these additional routes as a result of the public hearing process in the early part of this year," said Kathi Williams, county transportation analyst. "We are pleased to see passenger ridership continue to increase. It means that we are providing a service that is needed and useful in the community."
