BOMBAY BEACH — Imperial County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking into the attack near here of a man from San Bernardino County by another man who appears to be a friend of the victim.

Sheriff's Investigator Gabe Vela said between 12 and 1 a.m. Saturday deputies were called to a disturbance at Bombay Beach Marina on the Salton Sea. There deputies found the victim bleeding from wounds that appear to have been caused by a sharp instrument, Vela said.

Vela said investigators were told by the victim he was attacked by his friend, also of San Bernardino County.

The two men had been fishing at the marina at the time of the incident. Investigators aren't sure why the attacked occurred or with what the victim was assaulted.

Vela added investigators are trying to acquire an arrest warrant for the attacker, whose whereabouts were unavailable Saturday.

The identities and ages of the two men were not available from Vela at presstime Saturday, but the men were thought to be in their 50s.

The victim was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley. Information on his condition was unavailable.
