Niland man held in shooting death of his girlfriend's 22-year-old son

NILAND — Imperial County Sheriff's Office investigators have released the name of a 22-year-old man was found shot to death here Friday.

A press release from the Sheriff's Office states Eric Cox, 22, was shot and killed about 1:27 a.m. in the 200 block of East Sixth Street.

He was found in a side yard of the Sixth Street home by deputies who responded to a verbal disturbance at the residence.

According to the press release, Emilio Miranda, 47, of Niland was apprehended at the scene and arrested for the homicide.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Sharon Housouer said Miranda was the live-in boyfriend of Cox's mother.

She said Friday investigators were still conducting interviews regarding the case and therefore weren't able to release more details.

Miranda remained in the county jail Saturday with his bail set at $1 million.
