Sudduth pitches Eclipse to semis

FEDERAL WAY, Wash., — Leighan Sudduth pitched a no-hitter to lead the Imperial Valley Eclipse softball team to the semi-finals of the 2001 Amateur Softball Association/United States Western National Junior Olympics girls under-18 tournament with a 3-0 win over the Diva Warriors from Kansas at Celebration Park here Saturday.

Sudduth finished with four strikeouts and faced one batter over the minimum possible of 21. She also went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Erin Rutherford added two hits for the Eclipse.

In their first game Saturday, the Eclipse downed Pender X-treme from Nebraska 5-2.

Clarissa Maldonado paced the Eclipse offense finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI. Michelle Strahm contributed two hits.

Lauren Huyler picked up the win on the mound for the Valley squad.

Eclipse 6, Phillies 1

FEDERAL WAY, Wash., — Leighan Sudduth pitched a complete game two-hitter, leading the Imperial Valley Eclipse softball team to a 6-1 victory over the El Monte Phillies, improving the team's record to 4-0 in the 2001 Amateur Softball Association/United States Western National Junior Olympics girls under-18 tournament here Friday.

Leading the Eclipse offense were Lauren Huyler, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Clarissa Maldonado with two hits and an RBI.

The Eclipse (6-0) will play the Red Devils at 9 a.m. today.
