FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The Imperial Valley Eclipse softball team took second place at the 2001 Amateur Softball Association/U.S. western national Junior Olympics under-18 tournament here Sunday.
After winning two of three games Sunday, the Eclipse fell to the Wilber, Neb., Red Devils 7-6 in the championship game. Clarissa Maldonado had three hits and her sister Claudia Maldonado added two hits and an RBI for the Eclipse in the title game.
The Eclipse reached the final with a 1-0 win over the Red Devils. Leighan Sudduth earned the win on the mound and had two hits while Michelle Strahm had three hits and drove in the Eclipse's only run.
In earlier action Sunday, the Eclipse dispatched the Turlock Renegades 5-0 and fell to the Red Devils 7-1. Sudduth earned the pitching win and had two hits against Turlock. Erin Rutherford had a hit and scored a run in the Eclipse's first game against the Red Devils.
