Duncan Hunter's recently introduced bill that he says will "not impact the Salton Sea" will absolutely result in the death of the Salton Sea and the fishery.
It will see the Salton Sea recede by miles along much of the coastline and the resultant selenium-salt-laced dust storms will impact the health and livelihoods of everyone within hundreds of miles. It will help San Diego and kill the Imperial Valley.
As one who was raised alongside the Salton Sea since 1959 and one who headed up the Inland Wetlands Coalition to fight geothermal drilling at Wister, and the director of the Salton Sea Coordinating Council that finally resulted in the county/state/federal Salton Sea Task Force, and as author of the book "Fishing Salton Sea," I know, without doubt, that Duncan Hunter's bill will result in the death of Salton Sea.
This bill SHOULD be passed, right into the trash can, and then burned. Voters should remember this when it comes time for Duncan Hunter's re-election attempt.
