Wrestling officials sought

The Imperial Valley Wrestling Officials Association is looking for people interested in officiating high school wrestling. Those interested can contact Dale Ramey at 344-5043 or 344-4420 or Robert Powell at 370-0965.

Sparks signups

Registration is being accepted for the Brawley Police Activities League's girls Sparks basketball team. The team is open to girls ages 8 to 15. For more information call 344-8464.

Punt, Pass and Kick

The Imperial County Sheriff's Activities League is sponsoring the NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass and Kick competition at 7 a.m. Sept. 15 at Southwest High School in El Centro. The competition is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 15. Entry forms are available at local Sheriff's Office stations as well as Driscoll's Sports in El Centro. The SAL also is looking for coaches for its upcoming flag football season. For more information on coaching call 339-0113.


Junior golf tournament

The Imperial Valley Junior Golf Association will stage its final tournament of the year Friday at the Del Rio Country Club in Brawley. All girl and boy golfers ages 9-19 are welcome to participate. Tee time is 8 a.m. and cost is $10 for IVJGA members and $15 for non-members. For more information call Jen Yturralde at 353-3900.

Football coaches' meeting

The Imperial Valley Football Coaches Association will have its first meeting of the season at 6 tonight in room 25 at Imperial High School. All Imperial Valley football coaches on all levels are invited.

Valley Stars basketball tryouts

The All Valley Stars basketball team is looking for high school players interested in trying out for the team, which will compete in the Tommy Nuñez basketball tournament Sept. 1 in Phoenix. For more information call 357-0655 or 568-0076.

Cheer camp 2001

The Imperial Valley Pop Warner Football Association will hold a cheerleading camp at noon Aug. 25-26 in the Lions Center in Brawley for girls ages 5-15. For more information call 355-4872.

Holtville football camp

The Holtville Vikings Touchdown Club will sponsor its third non-contact football camp Monday through Aug. 17 at Holtville High School. The camp will run from 7-9 p.m. The cost is $25 and the camp is open to children in grades 2-8. For more information call Jim Sturgeon at 356-4284 or Betty Acosta at 356-4904.

Brawley volleyball practice

Mandatory practice for all Brawley Union High School volleyball players will begin Aug. 16 and run through Aug. 24. Practice will be from 9-11 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. each day.

Football coaches rules clinic

There will be a football coaches rules clinic at 6 p.m. Saturday in room 25 at Imperial High School. All high school football coaches are encouraged to attend. For more information call 355-2364.

Southwest girls golf


The Southwest High School's girls golf team will be meeting at 3 p.m. Aug. 20 in room 40 on the Southwest High campus in El Centro. Girls interested in joining the golf team must have a clearance card. For more information call Greg Sackos at 336-4200.

Winter softball league sign-ups

The Imperial Valley Girls Softball League is having sign-ups for its winter league from 6-8 tonight and every Wednesday in August. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon each Saturday in August. Games will start Sept. 18. For more information call George Moses at 352-6551.

Central Union fall sports clearance

All Central Union High School students interested in participating in a fall sport must pick up a clearance packet from the ASB window. The packets will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Thursday. Players must be cleared before practice starts.

Brawley Union fall sports starts

Any Brawley Union High School student interested in participating in a fall sport should report to that sport Aug. 16. Football will begin at 6 a.m. on the physical education field, volleyball at 9 a.m. in the gym, girls tennis at 6:30 p.m. on the tennis courts and cross country at 7 p.m. on the junior varsity baseball field. Girls golf starts at 4 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Del Rio Country Club.
