Murder charges filed against Emilio Miranda

August 08, 2001|By KELLY GRANT, Staff Writer

Murder charges have been filed against a Niland man in the shooting death of 22-year-old Eric Cox of Niland on Friday.

County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Sharon Housouer said Tuesday that a complaint against Emilio Miranda, 47, had been approved by the District Attorney's Office.

Housouer, who declined to give specific details about the murder, said it appears the shooting came after an argument.

Housouer said sheriff's deputies are still conducting interviews and investigating the incident.

A press release from the Sheriff's Office states Cox was shot and killed around 1:27 a.m. in the 200 block of East Sixth Street in Niland.

His body was found in a side yard of the Sixth Street home by deputies who responded to a verbal disturbance at the residence. Miranda lived with Cox's mother.

Miranda was apprehended at the scene and arrested on suspicion of murder.
