WESTMORLAND — The City Council here will stage a public meeting Aug. 15 to hear suggestions and comments on several proposed zoning changes.

George Galvan of The Holt Group said, "The city's map has some questionable zones, so we are trying to update them so everything in the city is compatible with each other."

The Holt Group provides engineering, planning and other services to the city.

The first proposed change is from residential to commercial for a section of Fifth Street between G and Center streets.

The second proposed zoning change is from commercial to residential for a section of B Street between Third Street and Highway 86

The third proposed change is H Street from First Street to Highway 86, from industrial to residential.

The fourth and last proposed zoning change is a site on H Street from Highway 86 to Second Street. The area is commercial and is proposed to be changed to industrial.

Galvan said the section of Fifth Street targeted is separated only by an alley from Main Street.

"It also looks like the city will be growing and there are a lot of empty sections that could be used," added Galvan of Fifth Street.

The H and B street sections being considered for residential zoning are in residential areas and are not consistent with the surroundings.

For further information on the proposal residents are encouraged to contact the Holt Group in El Centro at 337-3883. For a copy of the proposed zoning changes residents can call City Clerk Sally Traylor at 344-3411.

Residents are encouraged to attend the 7 p.m. meeting and voice their opinions and suggestions. Those unable to attend can submit written comments prior to the meeting to the City Clerk, City of Westmorland, P.O. Box 699, Westmorland, CA 92281.
