Youth sports: Cru wins three in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — The Cru picked up three wins in the Las Vegas Classic basketball tournament here last weekend.

Led by Robert Christensen and Andrew Grooms, the Cru, an El Centro-based youth team, beat the Red Storm 80-55 in its opener. Christensen and Grooms both scored 17 points.

In its second game, the Cru beat the Colorado X-Press 63-53. Vincent McSee led the Cru with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Aaron Garcia grabbed nine boards for the Cru.

The Cru beat the Las Vegas Rage 87-64 in its third game. Freddie Delgado led the Cru with 14 points.

In its final game, the Cru fell 77-68 to Beach Cities. Severino Almarez led the Cru with 13 points.

Sea Lions successful at SCMAF championships

LOS ALAMITOS — The Imperial Sea Lions fared well at the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation swimming championships here recently.

In the 6-year-old-and-under division, Samantha Bermudez took second in the 25-yard backstroke and fourth in the 25 freestyle, Jesse Cortez won the 25 freestyle and Jordyne Hobelman was third in the 25 breaststroke and sixth in the 25 freestyle.

In the 7-8-year-old class, the Sea Lions Alyson Dale was third in the 25 backstroke, Wesley Deen was fourth in the 25 butterfly and 24 freestyle and sixth in the 25 breaststroke and Kaleb Hobelman was third in the 25 breaststroke.

In the 9-10-year-old division, Adam Deen was fifth in the 50 butterfly, Kayla Finnell took third in the 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke, Dominic Gomez was fourth in the 50 breaststroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle and Emily Marrs was sixth in the 50 butterfly.

In the 11-12-year-old division, Brittany Brock was fifth in the 50 butterfly, Emily Deen was fourth in the 50 butterfly, Katrina Gomez took third in the 50 backstroke, Katie Ross was third in the 50 butterfly and 50 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 individual medley and Brittany Seeger was third in the 50 freestyle.

In the 13-14-year-old division, Alexa Armstrong won the 100 freestyle, Stephanie Brock was second in the 50 butterfly and sixth in the 50 backstroke, Tony Deen took second in the 50 breaststroke, Blake Seeger was second in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 50 breaststroke, and Erika Valle won the 50 backstroke, took third in the 50 butterfly and fifth in the 50 freestyle.

In the 15-18-year-old division, Savannah Armstrong took third in the 50 breaststroke, sixth in the 100 individual medley and second in the 50 butterfly, Jonathan Dale was fifth in the 100 individual medley, fourth in the 50 butterfly and second in the 100 freestyle, Tommy Dale was third in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 50 backstroke and Vanessa Marrs was third in the 50 butterfly and sixth in the 50 freestyle.
