Trustees ratify agreement with teachers' association

August 10, 2001|By MARIO RENTERÍA, Staff Writer

WESTMORLAND — The Westmorland Union School District board voted Thursday to ratify a contract agreement with the Westmorland Teachers' Association for the 2000-2001 school year and make retroactive payments on raises.

Last summer the board agreed to give a 1.5 percent salary increase to teachers for the 2000-2001 school year in Westmorland. The teachers' association did some work to revise the salary schedule on salary "columns" and "steps" and the revised schedule was approved Thursday with an increase of 4 percent, with fringe benefits. That totaled to a 5.5 percent increase.

The board agreed to make the increase retroactive to Nov. 1, 2000.

The top salary on the teachers' new salary schedule is $61,112.

Also beginning on the first workday of the 2001-2002 school year, hourly pay will increase to $23 for after-school tutoring and summer school teaching.

Superintendent Jim Matherly said, "Everybody is happy with the settlement and now we can just move into the next school year."

He said negotiations with the teachers' association for the 2001-2002 school year will begin within the next 45 days.
