August 11, 2001|By LAURA MITCHELL, Staff Writer

Nine candidates filed to run for three seats on the Heber Union School District board, making it the most crowded field in a Imperial Valley school board race in the Nov. 6 elections.

The deadline to file a declaration of candidacy for school board and special district elections was 5 p.m. Friday. In districts where an incumbent opted not to run, the filing deadline has been extended to Wednesday.

In other crowded competitions, 10 people declared candidacy for three full-term seats on the Salton Community Service District, seven filed for three seats on the Heber Public Utility District and seven candidates are vying for three seats on the Holtville Unified School District board.

Other races have less competition. Incumbents Pompeyo Tabarez and Bill L. Criman were the only candidates for their county Board of Education seats. Incumbents Kelly Keithly and Rebecca L. Ramirez will run unopposed for their Imperial Community College District board seats.
