Brawley man injured in collision with big rig

A 26-year-old Brawley resident suffered major injuries after his economy car collided with the trailer of a big rig today.

A press release from the California Highway Patrol states at 4:05 a.m. a car driven by Ricardo Cervantez collided with the back of a tractor-trailer rig driven by Johnny Aguirre, 47, of Brawley.

According to the press release, Aguirre was pulling out of Holly Sugar and turning west on Keystone Road just east of Highway 86 and Cervantez also was traveling west on 86 when the accident occurred.

Cervantez' vehicle sustained major damage in the collision while the big rig had moderate damage.

Cervantez suffered major injuries. He was taken to the El Centro Regional Medical Center. Information on his condition was not available from the hospital this morning.


Aguirre was not injured in the collision.

Neither driver were wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The accident is under investigation.
