50 years ago — A fourth anniversary of the establishment of Pakistan will be celebrated in El Centro tomorrow. The Imperial Valley Branch of the Muslim Association of America will be in charge of the ceremonies starting at noon in the Pakistan House on Broadway.

40 years ago — Two El Centro policemen, answering a call from an unidentified woman, found two girls engaged in a hair-pulling fight yesterday morning. The officers and another man had to pull the girls away from each other.

30 years ago — Vaccinations aimed at stopping any spread of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus is approaching the 50 percent completion mark locally.

20 years ago — A southeast windstorm whipped through the Valley with gusts up to 65 mph Wednesday leaving about $1 million in agricultural damage in its wake. Although the windstorm sent emergency vehicles scurrying through the Valley, there were no reports of serious injury or damage except for agriculture.
