Voice: Family law facilitator Diane Altamirano doing wonderful things

August 14, 2001

Many people are not aware that there is a service available to the public called family law facilitator, which is located in the law library at the courthouse in El Centro.

My neighbor was in the middle of a very stressful divorce and had spent literally thousands of dollars with an attorney working for her. When she had paid out thousands of dollars and still owed thousands more, she knew that she could not afford to continue to retain the attorney. She had to go to court and represent herself.

Needless to say, when she went to court she did not have the necessary information needed in order for the judge to get all matters settled. Judge Zimmerman suggested that she go in "immediately" and talk to the family law facilitator, Mrs. Diane Altamirano.

Mrs. Altamirano sat down and answered every question that was asked. She very patiently instructed my neighbor as to what she needed to do. She walked her through everything step by step. It seems that she went far beyond and above what is expected of her.

My neighbor was so confused and scared, but Mrs. Altamirano talked to her, gave her advice, assisted her in filling out the necessary papers and helped her to get them signed by the judge, all in a one hour period of time. I was impressed at how helpful she was and yet was able to be impartial.

She was amazing, truly amazing. I just sat there in awe, watching and listening while she gave my neighbor her power back. After all, knowledge is knowledge is power.
