CALIPATRIA — The City Council here accepted the resignation of Public Works Director Trey Faubion during a council meeting Tuesday night.

Faubion, who started working for the city as a volunteer firefighter in 1989, has taken a job as a firefighter with the El Centro Fire Department.

Faubion started with the Calipatria Public Works Department in 1995 and worked his way up to director.

"I'm going to miss the people here at the city. There's a lot of great people and a lot of great things here," said Faubion.

City Clerk Cathy Hoff said, "We'll be sad to see him go. He is a good employee with a lot of enthusiasm and he'll be missed."

City Finance Director Katy Lopez said, "I'm going to hate to see him go. I know he enjoys firefighting, that's his forte, that's his thing, and I wish him luck with his new job."

Thursday will be Faubion's last day with the city of Calipatria. He'll start his new job Tuesday.

Also at the meeting:

· The council agreed to award three contracts to Richard Medina Construction Co. for the rehabilitation of three residences in the city. Funding will come from the city's Community Development Block Grant funds.

Richard Randsell of The Holt Group in El Centro told the council the houses are in bad shape. One has a metal roof that has electrical wires rubbing back and forth on it. In another, Randsell said, the family had to sleep in the living room to keep cool in the summer.

The council voted 4-0 to award the contracts. Mayor Fred Beltran abstained because one of the homeowners is a relative.
