Voice: Fight embryonic stem cell research

August 16, 2001

In the midst of much debate over human cloning and embryonic stem cell research, many are fighting for their lives. Some are suffering daily with various diseases and some are being slaughtered at an alarming pace for the unstable promise of a cure.

I realize that this research seems to offer a lot of hope for the sick, but recently I heard a message supported by Scripture on this topic. I have been convicted to share what God's word says in reply to all of these arguments.

We are reminded in Exodus 20:13 "You shall not murder" and Jeremiah 1:5 states that "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you."

Also in Psalm 139:16 it is written "Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, when as yet here were none of them."

The lives of these babies are precious and we should come to their defense.

As it is written in Jeremiah 22:3 "Execute judgment and righteousness and deliver the plundered out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong and do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless or the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.

And finally in Proverbs 31:8 "Open your mouths for the speechless, in the cause for all who are appointed to die."

I would just like to encourage all of you to please speak out for the lives that will be lost if destructive embryonic research is not banned.

Contact President Bush, your representative and senators and urge them to banr esearch that destroys human life.

Let us all remember that an embryo is not a what but a who.

Call President Bush at (202) 456-1414 or email him at: President @whitehouse.gov. Call your representative and senators at (202) 225-3121 or visit their Web sites at www.house.gov and www.senate.gov.
