Westmorland council canceled

rescheduled for Sept. 5

August 16, 2001|By MARIO RENTERÍA, Staff Writer

WESTMORLAND — The City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday was canceled because of a lack of quorum.

The only council members present were Larry Ritchie and John Makin.

At 7:30 p.m., in a room full of residents concerned about city issues, City Clerk Sally Traylor gathered their attention and said, "The government codes state that when there is less than a quorum present, I, the city clerk, shall adjourn the meeting."

Traylor scheduled the next council meeting for 7 p.m. Sept. 5.

The adjournment didn't sit well with some residents, who asked Traylor about the whereabouts of the rest of the council.

Traylor told the audience that she wasn't sure and that only one council member, Mayor Henry Halcon, had told her he wasn't going to be able to attend the meeting.
