Redevelopment area approved by Imperial City Council

August 16, 2001|By JENNIFER RALTON-SMITH, Staff Writer

IMPERIAL — The City Council here voted Wednesday night to approve a resolution to designate a redevelopment survey area for the city redevelopment plan.

The council took the first step in formalizing designation of the entire city and its sphere of influence as a redevelopment survey area. The city Planning Commission was directed to designate particular areas within that framework.

The Planning Commission will meet at 5.30 p.m. Sept. 12 for a Redevelopment Agency workshop, followed by a meeting of the commission at 6:30 p.m.

Redevelopment is aimed at bringing new life to communities negatively impacted by physical, environmental or economic conditions.

Through redevelopment, a project area can receive focused attention and financial investment. Ideally, redevelopment also helps create jobs and revitalizes the business community.
