50 years ago — A delegation announced it will protest to the Board of Supervisors the proposal to put a cemetery adjacent to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley.

40 years ago — Tornado-like winds and torrential rains suddenly hit Holtville at 3:30 p.m. yesterday, uprooting trees, tearing off roofs, downing phone and power lines and dropping a half inch of rain.

30 years ago — Three separate groups interested in subleasing Andrade Circle near Winterhaven for a recreational camping area were sent to a six-member committee for review Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors Chairman Tunney Williams. Plans ranged from constructing an initial phase of 50 trailer spaces and expanding as public interest grows to beginning 300 spaces with future expansion as high as 900 spaces.

20 years ago — Imperial County scored a major victory Monday when Superior Court Judge Henry Wien found IT Corp. to be operating its Westmorland dump in violation of county permits by importing industrial wastes.
