August 20, 2001|By DARREN SIMON, Staff Writer

The body of a man was found near railroad tracks on the east side of El Centro on Sunday, and the county Coroner's Office is investigating the cause of the death.

County Coroner Investigator Rick Williams said a passerby found the body near Third Street and Commercial Avenue at 4:45 p.m. and reported the death to the El Centro Police Department.

Williams said there were no obvious signs of foul play to the body. The identity of the body remained unknown this morning. The man was reportedly found with no identification.

Williams said it was difficult to say how long the man had been dead.

When asked if the man appeared to be a transient, Williams said the body was found near the railroad tracks in an area where transients are known to pass on a regular basis.
