A 39-year-old El Centro man was in the county jail this morning after he was arrested for allegedly attempting to choke his girlfriend with a belt during an argument Saturday.

Magdoleno Salazar was in jail on $100,000 bail following his arrest shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday at his trailer in the 1800 block of Lincoln Street.

According to El Centro police, Salazar and his 48-year-old girlfriend had been arguing throughout Saturday and the arguing turned to physical violence into the evening.

Police alleged Salazar held the woman in the bedroom of his trailer and reportedly attempted to choke her with a belt.

Police said there were signs on the woman's neck consistent with someone wrapping a belt around their neck.

When police arrived they found the woman unconscious in front of the trailer. Police revived her and she apparently had not suffered serious injuries.

Police said the woman did complain of pain to her face and neck.

Salazar was booked into the county hail on suspicion of false imprisonment, making threats and assault with a deadly weapon.
