Lawrence Martin Volkart

No public services are planned for Lawrence Martin Volkart, 91, of El Centro, who died Aug. 13 in Flagstaff, Ariz.

His remains will be cremated.

Mr. Volkart was born Aug. 8, 1910, in Rich Hill, Mo. He moved to the Imperial Valley in the early 1940s, settling with his wife, Helen, in the McCabe School district area. He was an alfalfa farmer, rancher and custom hay hauler.

He was a member of Imperial County Farm Bureau and Hay Growers Association. He served on the Imperial County grand jury for one year.

Mr. Volkart retired to Sedona, Ariz., in the late 1970s, where he enjoyed trout fishing and working in his garden, according to family. He had recently moved to Flagstaff.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in May 1993.

Survivors include his daughters, Melinda Auten of Manteca and Mona Keksis of Flagstaff; sons, Nick Volkart of Sigurd, Utah, and Larry Volkart of Eugene, Ore.; sisters, Josephine Cowan and Zula Dobbs, both of the Los Angeles area; and three grandchildren.
