Man's body discovered in All-American Canal

August 24, 2001

WINTERHAVEN — The body of a man thought to be an undocumented immigrant was found Thursday in the All-American Canal near here.

The body was discovered by an Imperial Irrigation District worker at noon Thursday.

There was no identification found on the body, and county Chief Deputy Coroner Sgt. Rick Macken said he is looking into other ways of identifying the body.

He said the man is thought to have been in his 20s or 30s, and had likely been in the canal for about 24 hours.

Macken added the man likely drowned, adding there were no signs of foul play. However, he said the final cause of death would not be determined until after the body is examined.
