Man suffers major injuries after car struck power pole

NILAND — A Calipatria man suffered major injuries when the car he was driving went out of control west of here and struck a power pole Friday.

Christopher Flores, 18, was driving south on English Road, south of Alcott Road, at 9:30 a.m. when his vehicle began to fishtail and went out of control, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

"Flores slid into a power pole," the report states. "He sustained a left femur fracture and his vehicle sustained major left front side damage."

Rescue personnel used the Jaws of Life to extricate Flores and he was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley for medical treatment.

The report states Flores was wearing his seat belt and the vehicle's air bags deployed.
