A 39-year-old Chula Vista resident and his passenger escaped serious injury after the driver rolled his truck while allegedly driving under the influence.

A California Highway Patrol press release states Kevin Mark Johnson was arrested this morning after being released from El Centro Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries following the accident.

Johnson and Cary Lee Coleman, 31, of Chula Vista were heading east on Interstate 8 just east of the Highline Canal in a small pickup about 12:30 a.m.

While traveling in the slow lane at a speed of about 65 mph, Johnson took his eye off the road to close his rear window and lost control of the truck.

His pickup went off the road and rolled onto the south shoulder of the interstate.

The press release states it was determined Johnson was under the influence of alcohol.

According to the press release, Johnson was being held at the county jail. His bail amount was not available this morning.

Coleman was not injured.

Both people in the truck were wearing seat belts.
