50 years ago — Bob Miller will become manager of the Barbara Worth Hotel in El Centro on Sunday. He comes from Reno, Nev., where he managed the El Cortez Hotel for 10 years. Miller is replacing A.C. Armbruster, who resigned.

40 years ago — A request to form a Niland Recreational District is ready for consideration by the county Boundary Commission. The Boundary Commission is scheduled to examine the proposed recreational district boundaries to determine if they conflict with any similar boundaries.

30 years ago — El Centro teachers will be welcomed as the El Centro Chamber of Commerce stages its 18th annual Welcome Teachers Luncheon in the multipurpose room of Central Union High School. Master of ceremonies will be Imperial Valley Press Publisher J.R. "Dick" Fitch, past chamber president and current president of the El Centro Kiwanis Club.

20 years ago — Planting his footprints at the major league level, Paul Serna of Holtville served as a pinch-runner Tuesday as Seattle dropped a 1-0 decision to Baltimore. Called up from Nuevo Laredo of the Mexican League last week, Serna reported to the Mariners in Baltimore on Tuesday.
