Allen leads Brawley at Invitational

SANTEE — The Brawley Union High School cross country team kicked off the 2001 season at the Wolf Pack Invitational at West Hills High School here Friday.

Leading Brawley were Meg Allen, Jennifer Cardenas and Xiomara Favela in the girls junior division.

Allen took ninth place, finishing the 1.5 mile course in 10 minutes, 21 seconds followed by Cardenas in 12th in 10:30. Favela took 13th in 10:35 with Reanna Duran rounding out the Brawley junior finishers in 29th place (11:54).

Claudia Dominguez took seventh place in 10:14 in the girls sophomore division.

The highest finisher for the Wildcat boys was Anthony Arevalo, who took 19th in 12:51 on the 2.2-mile course in the boys junior division. Gerardo Contreras was 23rd in the division in 13:00, followed by Joel Aguiar in 28th (13:15).

In the senior division, Alfredo Campas took 20th in 12:03, Hector Martinez was 28th (12:21), Tommy Guzman finished 29th (12:22) and Luis Maldonado was 30th in 12:28.

Lizeth Acevedo led the Brawley girls in the senior division, taking 22nd in 11:27, with teammate Araceli Luna taking 29th in 11:57.

Brawley will compete in the Bonita Invitational at Bonita Vista High School in Chula Vista on Friday.
