CALEXICO — Police here arrested a woman on suspicion of attempted murder after she reportedly stabbed her boyfriend in the neck with a glass shard Sunday.

Monica Macias, 18, of Calexico was booked into the county jail, where her bail was set at $100,000.

Her boyfriend, Carlos Osuna, 26, of Calexico, was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center. There was no information this morning on his condition, but police said the wound was not life-threatening.

The stabbing occurred shortly after 3 a.m. in the 600 block of Lincoln Street.

Police, responding to a 911 call, found a woman and man, identified as Macias and Osuna, had been in a scuffle.

Macias had scrapes and bruises, according to Calexico police Investigator Michael Christian. Osuna was bleeding from his neck.

Macias, who resides at the house where the stabbing occurred, was detained for questioning. She was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police spoke with Osuna at the hospital.

Christian said he was unsure what prompted the fight.

Osuna reported to police that he had been drinking and passed out before Macias stabbed him in the neck.

He told police he had not struck her, despite the scrapes and bruises she had, Christian said.

Macias told police Osuna fell on the glass shard, Christian added.

He said the investigation is ongoing.
