50 years ago — At least two people were shot over the weekend as dove hunters scattered bird shot over Imperial Valley. Five-year-old Larry Bratton of El Centro was sprinkled by shot on his father's ranch just north of town. Other shots hit a nearby horse and scared it over the fence.

40 years ago — Sheriff's deputies and Border Patrol officers launched a full-scale search for two Holtville women missing since they went rock hunting somewhere near Mount Signal. Ruth Eberli and her sister, Maudi Hoke, were reported missing when they failed to return home.

30 years ago — Although there has been no official notification at the Calexico Port of Entry, an excerpt from the Daily Construction Reporter, printed in San Diego, announced bids will be called for construction of a new Calexico Port of Entry. Port Director Charles Smith said he had not received any such notices.

20 years ago — Lack of funding has resulted in the delay of construction of two additional inspection bays at the Calexico Port of Entry. John Luers, U.S. Customs district director of the logistics management division, said the service favors installing two additional bays but the economics has delayed the concept.
