Two traffic accidents, one Tuesday and one today, left two people dead, according to the county Coroner's Office.

The first accident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday as two cars collided on Evan Hewes Highway where it intersects with Highway 115.

According to the California Highway Patrol a Calexico man, whose name was not released, attempted to turn left from the eastbound lanes of Evan Hewes onto Highway 115.

The Highway Patrol reported that, according to witness reports another car was stopped at the intersection waiting for traffic to clear.

Witnesses alleged the Calexico man pulled his car around that vehicle and attempted to make the turn onto Highway 115.

In doing so he entered the path of a car heading west on Evan Hewes driven by a Holtville man whose identity also was unavailable.

Highway Patrol officials reported the vehicles collided and the Calexico man died at the scene.

The Holtville man and two juveniles in his car were uninjured, according to the Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol stated that the accident was still under investigation this morning.

The second accident occurred this morning in the Salton City area.

The county Coroner's Office reported at 8 a.m. that investigators were responding to a fatal accident.

One person was reportedly killed, but there were no other details available.
