Whether it's competing in big championship matches or in season-opening tournaments, Brawley Union High School's Leighan Sudduth always seems at the top of her game.
She proved herself again over the weekend as she led Brawley to first place in the Madison High School tournament in San Diego, where she earned tournament MVP honors.
With Sudduth pacing the Wildcats, Brawley swept through three matches, winning each match three sets to zero.
While Brawley won in impressive fashion, Sudduth didn't think it was much of an accomplishment.
"The competition wasn't very good. To me it was more of a good practice for us," said the 17-year-old senior. "We were able to get all the bugs out and I think now we know what we can and can't do."
While Sudduth did much of her damage as the team's setter, in the team's first match against Mission Bay she finished with 18 points, including 11 in the first game.
