Two bodies in All-American Canal thought to be illegal immigrants

September 11, 2001|By MARIO RENTERIA, Staff Writer

Two bodies were found in the All-American Canal on Monday.

Imperial County Sheriff's Sgt. Rick Macken said the bodies were thought to be those of undocumented immigrants because of the location where they were found, their clothing and because they were not carrying identification.

The first body was found by U.S. Border Patrol agents about 1:22 p.m. where the All-American Canal meets the Highline Canal.

The second was found about 8:30 p.m. by Border Patrol agents in the All-American Canal near the Drop II area.

Macken said both bodies are being listed as "John Does."

Macken said investigators aren't sure how long the bodies were in the canal.

Autopsies were scheduled for this morning.
