Well, we (Democrats/Hispanics) of Imperial Valley got our way in the redistricting and reapportionment of the Assembly, the state Senate and the Congress (three aces). It's been a long time coming.
Now the real hard work begins: citizenship classes, voter registration and to set "them Mexicans" to the polls on election day.
Again I wish to give thanks to those people, institutions and community organizations for expressing their opinion and for their input in this most significant issue that will affect us all for the next 10 years (2010 census).
Also I must praise MALDEF and WVRI for the training that we received. Professionals left the comfort of big city life to come down here in the dead of summer to share the social/political knowledge with us desert folks, and equally as important was the work of the local MAPA redistricting committee consisting of Johnny Hernandez, Roberto Rubio and Jerry Grijalva.
