Juan Cruz to head E.C.'s Harding school

September 12, 2001|By KELLY GRANT, Staff Writer

The El Centro Elementary School Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to approve the superintendent's recommendation of Juan Cruz as the new principal at Harding Elementary School.

Cruz, who has been working as a school support curriculum coordinator for the Imperial County Office of Education, replaces Pat Maruca. Maruca was appointed superintendent of the Holtville Unified School District last month.

Cruz, one of four candidates who applied for the position, previously taught in the district and has a master's degree in education and an administrative services credential.

Cruz did not attend Tuesday's board meeting and did not immediately return a reporter's phone call seeking comment this morning.

ECESD Associate Superintendent Everett Taylor said it was unknown when Cruz would be able to start at Harding. The district will have to work with Maruca and Cruz's current employer, ICOE, to find a date convenient for all, Taylor said.
