Skeletal remains of immigrant found in desert

September 12, 2001

CARRIZO WASH — The skeletal remains thought to be those of an undocumented immigrant male were found Tuesday by U.S. Border Patrol agents.

County Sheriff's Office Deputy Gary Hayes said agents discovered the remains about 11 a.m. in the western Imperial County desert near Carrizo Wash.

Hayes said investigators think the body had been in the area since July. No identification was found on the body.

He said investigators will try to use the body's teeth to identity the victim.
