Wildcats run past Cathedral City

CATHEDRAL CITY — The Brawley Union High School boys and girls cross country teams got their first wins of the season as they defeated Cathedral City here Thursday.

The Brawley boys defeated Cathedral City 25-36 while the Wildcat girls toped the Lions 18-43.

Leading the Brawley boys on the 3-mile course was Alfredo Campas, taking third in 18 minutes, 4 seconds, followed by Jesus De Dios in fourth (18:16) and Arturo Contreras in fifth (18:43). Luis Maldonado finished sixth (18:48) with Gerardo Contreras rounding things out in seventh (19:12).

Claudia Dominguez led the Wildcat girls, taking first in 21:16, followed by Meg Allen in second (21:33) and Jennifer Cardenas in third in 21:55. Xiomara Favela took fifth in 22:53 and Natalia Cardenas finished seventh in 23:35 for Brawley.

Brawley will compete in the Cibola Invitational in Yuma on Saturday.
