Brawley cross country shines at Cibola meet

YUMA — The Brawley Union High School girls cross country team took second and the Brawley boys were third at the Cibola Invitational here Saturday.

Claudia Dominguez led the Wildcat girls, taking second in 20 minutes, 21 seconds. Meg Allen was 10th (21:14), Xiomara Favela, 13th (22:01), and Jennifer Cardenas, 15th (22:12).

Alfredo Campos was the lone Brawley boy to medal, taking ninth (17:17).

The Southwest High girls took fourth at the meet, which was won by Lake Havasu. Abril Diaz led the Eagle girls with a 28th place finish.

Led by Doug Fulp's second-place finish, the Southwest boys took second at the meet. Fulp was followed by teammates Garrett Bishop in third and Sal Acevedo in sixth.

The Central Union boys took sixth at the meet. Central's top boys' finisher was Hipolito Valdez who took 24th (18:32). Spartan Erica Camacho finished fourth (20:22) in the girls race.

The top 15 runners earned medals.

Southwest's times were not available.
